How to host a fun teen swimming pool party
There’s nothing better than a swimming pool birthday party – just ask any kid – regardless of their age. Having a swimming pool in your own backyard makes the party planning easy. You need to get creative with the birthday party invitations, make up the guest list and wait for the fun to begin! Here are some ideas to try at your next pool party:
Get creative with the invitations: you can cut out invitations in the shape of flip flips or bathing suits – good for either a boy’s or a girl’s party. Decorate the invitation. If you want something even more unique, write the invitation in a real flip flop, have the guest bring it with them and give them the matching one when they arrive. You could write the invitation on a deflated beach ball and have the guests bring that as well and it can be used during the party for an impromptu game of beach volleyball.
During the party: Decide what kind of activities your child would like – from making sand art to decorating flip flips to tie-dyeing t-shirts. If the party is girl-centered, have a pedicure party so the girls can show off their decorated flip flops and their newly decorated toes!
In-pool activities: Have some swim flippers on hand and have a coin dive/treasure hunt for the guests. Toss in some coins or other items heavy enough to sink to the bottom, making sure they are too large to get caught in the skimmers, and have the guests jump in and swim to the coins. Whoever collects the most wins!
Mocktail party: The kids will feel like grown-ups if you serve them drinks in fancy glasses with tiny umbrellas. You can serve the drinks out of hollowed out pineapples or watermelons.
Party food: Offer outdoor favorites such as hamburgers and hot dogs, set up a buffet table with various condiments, rolls, salads, chips, cut up veggies and dip. Offer sliced fruit as well. Store drinks in a poolside chest so the party goers can choose the drink of their choice – when they’re not enjoying the mocktails, of course. Easy to serve and enjoy birthday desserts can include cupcakes or even ice cream sandwiches and ice cream bars.
Let them go wild: When you have a swimming pool party, the fun almost makes itself as the kids frolic, play volleyball and just generally splash around.
Most teenagers, tweens and younger children absolutely love the idea of a pool party. Make sure you have enough additional towels and sun screen on hand for those who may not have brought theirs. Also have chairs, lounges and even outdoor throw pillows scattered around under the shade so the kids can have a place to relax and chat when they’re not swimming.
