Dreaming and standing up for that dream is what the book Listen To My Dream wants to convey. The book is generally about the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. from his early years until he was murdered in Memphis on April 4, 1968. It speaks of how this young black boy wonders on why he is treated unlikely by other people and dreams on abolishing discrimination between the white people and the so called Negroes.
This 40 pages soft covered book is split into two insightful portions. The first part is full of narrative poem depicting the detailed life of Martin Luther King, Jr. since he was a young boy. Life partners Michael and Debi Pearl, load this part with multi-colored drawings that even small girls and boys be attentive on this encouraging story. The second part of the book shows comprehensive facts about how Martin Luther King, Jr. inspired the civil rights movement.
The book, Listen To My Dream, begins from the time little Martin interrogated his mother why people are addressing him contrary to the others and the reason why he is a black boy. Yet, his dreams of hope and support for his fellow men was inspired by the encouragement of his teacher, Ms. Lemon of Oglethorpe Elementary and was set to believe in that dream.
Soon after, he was additionally assured to make his visions to a reality when Rosa Parks repudiated to give up her front seat for a white person, hence King organized a boycott of the Montgomery bus system up to the point that all colored persons are addressed fairly. In due course, the Supreme Court banned discrimination in 1956 and both black and white share the same privileges. It closes with King’s memorial after he was murdered at Memphis in April 4, 1968.
This children’s book is an excellent representation on dreaming and transforming it into reality that will create a tremendous change into the lives of many people in our world. Although the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. is full of accounts, the book, Listen To My Dream, fashioned a creative way for children to listen and focused on a great part of history. The lyrical strategy of the book makes it appealing to read aloud to children and the account on the life of Martin Luther makes it edifying for little ones to know how people acquired their fair liberties and value the equal liberties they now have.
Listen To My Dream is an encouragement to people dreaming and wishing their dreams to be a reality. Martin Luther King, Jr. dwell a life filled with aspiration and willpower deserving of all the appreciation even until these days.
