Non-Traditional Wedding Gowns

Designers have become much more daring in their use of color for bridal gowns in recent years. These days a bride can find all sorts of colors for her wedding gown, she is no longer limited to white or ivory. Most are soft hues, like the gray and blush gowns featured in Vera Wang’s latest collection, but some designers are offering gowns in more saturated colors as well. There are tons of amazing options for non-traditional wedding gowns, here are a few beautiful options, as well as a few tips on how to pull it off.

Gray was a big color at Vera Wang’s Fall 2011 gown collection show. While it is not the first color that you think of when it comes to weddiing dresses, the gowns look actually quite romatic and feminine. The key to pulling off a gray wedding gown while still looking like a bride is that the fabric is sheer and soft, and the shade of gray is gentle and light. Some of Vera Wang’s gowns also featured high contrast details such as black sashes. Softe white accessorie will give a gray gown a more bridal feeling. A long plain white bridal veil would be lovely, as would a pearl necklace. A fashion-forward dress calls for a chic headpiece, such as a jeweled headband or a spray of feathers.

Blush is another color which has gained traction as an alternative to traditional white for wedding gowns. It is a less edgy color than gray, and therefore easier to pull off. Blush is a very flattering hue on fair-skinned brides, especially redheads. As with gray, it looks its loveliest in ethereal fabrics like tulle, chiffon, or organza. Warm accent colors pair nicely with blush. You may wish to special order a lighter color of blush for the veil. A light bronze color would be gorgeous for custom pearl and crystal earrings and the bridal shoes. Really keep the look fairy-like and feminine to help play up the color of a blush wedding gown.

Pale blue and pink are not especially common for wedding gowns, yet they are not so offbeat as to be shocking. Blue, after all, is a traditional wedding color symbolizing fidelity, and has been part of weddings since Biblical times. As for pink, it is the girliest color, and it is great for brides that love all things feminine. Both colors are very beautiful in a satin color, for it will make the pale hues look more saturated. A white viel is not just for traditional gowns, it would look fantastic with either pink or ice blue. A classic strapless ballgown or a more fittted trumpet style works beautifully when it comes to the style of the gown. Pearl drop earrings and a neat chignon with hairpins would finish the updated classic style perfectly.

There are the bright red wedding dresses for those brides who really like to make a splash. These are definitely for the modern age! For a hint of Goth flair, they are often done with blod black accents. With a red wedding dress, a black mantilla veil would be highly appropriate. A great addition to the statement-making red wedding gown would be jet black crystal pearl earrings and lng black sleeved gloves. Though not all brides can pull off such a new age wedding look, there are a few that would just look weird wearing anything but a dramatic red and black gown!
