price of a diamond – does anyone know a good site?
My friend has put a ring on lay-away at a local jewelry store. It’s a simple design with black onyx and the center diamond is supposedly .009. The clerk tested it in front of us with some equipment and it shows to be diamond.
The price was tagged as over $1100..but she quickly brought it down to $450. So my friend put a $50 down on it with $150/month for the next 90 days.
Now, we are both thinking of that is a good price. I don’t know anything about diamonds. The price seems reasonable but, then again, we’re not sure if we were jipped.
The store had 5 good reviews in yelp.com.
Does anyone know a site that I can figure out what a .009 diamond is worth? I’ve seen some sites where 1/2 carat is $450…but the diamond he has is only .009. Although it does have real black onxy surrounding it.
I know it’s hard to say because we have no picture to show…but he’s getting stressed out.

That is an extremely tiny diamond and yes the price is too much for a bargain. But diamonds are usually priced on cut, carat, and clarity. A flawless diamond is out of most people’s budget. But the woman’s willingness to drop the price that far should have been a red flag.
Onyx as a stone is pretty but it doesn’t have much value. Then also what is it set in? Gold? That makes a difference too. Take a look on ebay for onyx rings with a small diamond. I bet you can find one for $50.
