Monty P. The bonsai Tree 2
It seemed like Gina was gone about forty five million hours. I began to worry when I heard Gina talking on her cell phone to her granddaughter, Zoe. Now I suppose you’re wondering how I knew it was her granddaughter. Come on. Give me a break. After hearing Gina on the phone for the last 13 years, I can tell who it is, especially when she talks to her husband David. Then she gets all lovey dovey. Well, anyway, I heard her telling Zoe about the Chinese elm next door. Apparently the tree was really nice. It was about 14″ tall and in really great shape.
Now I had to figure out how I was going to meet the newest resident of our neighborhood. What would you do? Trees don’t have voices that people can hear. Don’t tell me you hear trees talking when the breeze blows through their leaves. That’s the wind talking, not the trees. And you can’t understand it anyway. I can understand the wind but people can’t.
I suppose I could shoot off an email to the new guy however I don’t know what his email is or if he even has one set up yet. And I can’t speak or write Chinese anyway.
Then my heart leaped with joy. Be still my foolish heart. I heard Gina tell Zoe that Sandy was going to keep her new bonsai outside right away. Man that was fabulous. This way I will be able to look over the fence and see the little fellow and we can begin our long term friendship. Oops, I forgot. How will we communicate if we don’t speak the same language? Well I am one determined tree and I will figure out a way. You can’t hold a tree like me back. Don’t even try. You might get hurt.
I went to sleep that night in really good spirits. I even had a little fantasy that a bonsai bird might decide to build a nest in one of my branches. Now that would be too much to ask for one day. Nevertheless that is exactly what I dreamed about that night. It was a beautiful blue bonsai bird with a pretty orange beak. It was so light that it didn’t bend my branch at all. But it was heavy enough so that I could feel it. It kinda tickled at first. It sang and sang and sang many beautiful songs that some of my favorite singers originally recorded; songs like Yellow Bird, Rockin Robin, If I were a Rich Man, and many others. Then it started to build its nest one bonsai twig at a time. Wait a minute. Bonsai twigs? This was beginning to be very confusing. Did my bird boarder find bonsai twigs lying around somewhere? If so then there must be more bonsai trees in the neighborhood. Things were going fast.
You would think that if there were other bonsai trees around I would know about them. I must dig deeper into this whole idea.
