Duke’s Pearls: Bernard and Doris star stuns the red carpet at the Golden Globes
The Golden Globes were back with a bang Sunday night after taking the year off in 2008. As usual, the question of who was wearing what on the red carpet generated as much buzz as the awards themselves. But in amongst the dazzling gowns and sparkling diamonds, perennial Hollywood icon Susan Sarandon caught my eye with her stylish and sophisticated long pearl necklace, made by New York boutique designer Fred Leighton.The oscar-winning actress was clearly head over heels for her designer necklace and it sounded like Leighton will have a job on his hands getting her to let go of the piece.Well wouldn’t you? Her 32″ string looked both modern and elegant around her neck.
But does the fact that Susan Sarandon, aged 62, was one of the only A-listers adorned with pearls on the night mean we are going back to the stereotype of pearls only being worn by old dears?Absolutely not! Pearl jewellery has a timeless elegance and charm if you know how to wear it. How? By doing as the celebrities do and only accepting real quality! Cheap pearls are rarely classy, so avoid the thousands of imitation and low grade pearls you find on eBay. If you’re on a budget, go for natural freshwater pearls which can be beautiful. But for the true celeb treatment you should spend that little extra on saltwater pearls, the choice of Susan Sarandon on Sunday night.
