Brugge – still a vital economic centre

Brugge today is a living history museum, and one of the leading arts centres of Europe. Dubbed the Venice of the North owing to its scenic grid work of canals, the narrow cobbled streets deter tour buses and other motorised transport. However, you can walk the cobbles on foot or explore in comfort from a horse-drawn carriage, which can be picked up outside our hotel. This includes the 1,075 hectares of Zeebrugge – Brugge’s huge new commercial and industrial sea port and one of the economic lynchpins of the Benelux states. Meanwhile, the river port is still open for business, and river cruises regularly feature on corporate hospitality agendas.
