Layered necklaces:
Look for layered or multi-strand necklaces with different bangles, baubles, and charms. One charm that keeps popping up on trendy fall necklaces are keys! Look for necklaces that have different skeleton keys, diary keys, or tiny padlocks. Amazon.com has a bunch and you can check out stores like Claire’s, Rue 21, or Charlotte Russe for these layered looks at decent prices!
If you’ve got the $, check out Tiffany & Co.’s beads necklace – 87″ of Tiffany’s thick, sterling silver beads. Tiffany’s also has lots of multi-strand necklaces, layered pendants, and key charms!
Raggedy Ruffles:
When looking for tops and sweaters with ruffles, try not to be too girly or grandmotherly! Look for ruffles that are loose and asymmetrical – not prim and proper. Team a ruffled cardigan with a t-shirt and sneakers or boots. Pair a fancy ruffled top with dark blue jeans. You don’t want to look like you’re coming from ballet class!
Short Boots:
Some people have a hard time pulling off the ankle boot trend. Sometimes they don’t look right on bare legs. If you’re wearing a skirt, make sure you have tights or leggings on! Don’t try to wear your ankle boots with capri pants, shorts, or a short skirt. In latest makeup fashion wear jeans or boots that cover the ankle boot; don’t try tucking your pants into the boot. This is only going to work if you have super-tight pants!
Shearling Jackets and Trench Coats:
Shearling is usually used as the liner to jackets and boots, but this season, coats get turned inside-out! Look for shearling on all cuts and styles of jackets and coats: short, long, casual bomber jackets, and formal capes. Shearling outerwear can be worn with anything from casual clothes to formal evening wear.

Trench coats are just as versatile! They can be worn over jeans or a dress. You can stick to the sophisticated palette of black, gray, or khaki or stand out in a trench in bright colors like red, pink, or turquoise! Overstock.com has a great guide to wearing women’s trench coats!
Dark eyes and orangey-red lips:
Instead of the vintage-inspired, dramatic red lip, try softening it a bit with a tinge of orange or coral. The color is more wearable on a variety of skin tones and will complement your fading summer tan!
